INFORMATION
IMMIGRATION
All visitors are advised to have Visas on arrival; kindly check the applicable requirements with your travel agent,
diplomatic missions or at your nearest tourist office and at the Airline offices.
SECURITY
As in all countries, security is basically not guaranteed. It is not
advisable to walk around at night. Please check with your hotel or lodge for safe-boxes;
for keeping your passport or valuables. Kenya enjoys excellent political
environment and security is a concern as in any other major cities around
the world.
TREE HOTELS ACCESS
Families travelling with children under the age of seven [7yrs] are advised
that they are not admitted at tree hotels on safari.
LUGGAGE & CLOTHING
When on safari we recommend lightweight luggage due to inadequate storage
facilities;
Light cotton and linen dresses, short sleeved shirts are recommended plus
pullovers for chilly nights at high altitudes. Flat comfy walking shoes and
sandals are an asset. Bring along with you sun hats and glasses to protect
against the sun.
MEDICAL
It's advisable to check current health requirements with airlines. Visitors
are sometimes advised, although not mandatory, except in some instances
(i.e. Far East, Central America, South, Central and West Africa), to have
yellow fever and cholera certification. Kenya has excellent hospitals and
doctors in addition to the Flying Doctor Service who will fly you promptly
in case of any illnesses. There are pharmacies in all major towns, but it's
advisable to carry adequate supplies of prescribed drugs when on safari.
DEPARTURE TAX & CUSTOMS
Airport departure tax is not included in the package and is payable in foreign
currency. Personal effects like cameras and other accessories [excluding
slides and cine projectors] can be temporarily imported duty free.
MEALS &
SHOPPING
This is generally British style with full breakfast, lunch and dinner, tea
or coffee included with main meals. Nairobi and Mombasa have excellent shopping facilities for almost
anything, ranging from souvenirs to basic needs items.
INFRASTRUCTURE
Most parts of Kenya, including game reserves and national parks can be accessed easily using
light aircrafts from Nairobi's Wilson Airport. over 30 International
airlines operate from Nairobi and Kenya Airways is our national carrier, flying to Mombasa, Kisumu
and Malindi. The road network is comprehensive and
communication bureaus are found in almost all buildings in major towns.
CURRENCY
The basic unit of Kenyan currency is the shilling, used on the decimal
system and divided into 100 cents. Exchange rates can be checked from banks
and foreign exchange bureaus. Visitors can bring any amounts of foreign
currency and no currency declaration is required. Banks give slightly better
rates of exchange than hotels. We strongly advise you to avoid street
dealers. A number of International banks operate in Nairobi. Hours of
business are 0900-0300 weekdays, 0900-1100 Saturdays. Banks at the major
airports operates on a 24 hour service
including Sundays and public holidays.
CLIMATE
In general, climate varies with altitude, but seldom falls below 24 degrees centigrade during
the day and 10 degrees centigrade at night. There are two rainy seasons in Kenya,
October-Dec, and Mar-June.
LANGUAGE
English is a well spoken language in most parts of Kenya and the national language is Kiswahili. Most
hotels and lodges print their literature in English, French, and German and
have multilingual staff.
